The Constellation of Forgotten Things is a collection of short stories co-authored by Tiffany Chu and her son, Renley Nicolas Chu, who tragically passed away at the age of 18.
The book begins with an account of how the book was conceived. This helps the reader understand the book.
These stories are set in a fantasy land called Reveria. Each of them explores love, separation, longing and loss. People with contrasting personalities forming a bond is a constant theme in the book. Some stories are connected through recurring characters.
Renley’s stories carry a quiet heaviness, while Tiffany’s additions gently illuminate them with hope.
As I read each story, I couldn’t help but relate it to the person who penned it. The author’s note at the end of each story feels like we are having a deep conversation with a friend. While the stories are melancholic and thought-provoking, these notes bring further depth to them.
The book touches upon themes like suicide and death. It’s remarkable how each story leaves a lasting impression, despite its brevity.
Understanding Tiffany and Renley’s journey makes the emotions hit harder and turns this into a truly unforgettable read.
This book is as much about the stories it tells as it is about the bond behind them and it’s sure to leave you teary-eyed.
If this book sounds like something you’d enjoy, you can support it through the author’s Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tiffanychu/revenir
